Whew...First week is over

We are officially celebrating our first weekend of this new job! The week went well for the most part but some parts were touch-n-g0. I didn't meet my attending (boss for the month) until Wednesday because he had Monday and Tuesday off so it made those days awkward because I had very little guidance. It did give me time to get a feel for the place but it was a little frustrating just flapping in the wind. I did meet him and he is an incredibly nice man, and I think this first rotation is going to be good for learning but nice and easy so I can ease into everything. So I am happy about that!
I had my first "home call" the other night which unfortunately did not go well. I stayed at the hospital putting out small fires until after 9 then headed home. I placed my pager and cell beside my bed as I did for every call last year. I got several pages overnight which woke both Joey and me up (sorry babe) and I promptly returned them. I had one right after we woke up at 6:30ish and returned it and they said they had been trying to get in touch with me for hours....what?! Evidently they had my cell phone number and when they didn't get me on my pager they called that wrong number and OF COURSE could not reach me....oops. I should have checked the call list to make sure they had the correct phone number but hindsight is 20/20. The attending got called in the middle of the night and I felt horrible. Hopefully that will be the worst thing I ever do as a resident here!

Joey and I are both trying to study a good bit too. This past year the only studying we did was to pass our general boards once and for all. Now we are in the real deal and we have to get serious, because this is learning for the rest of our career (heavy stuff). AND we have tests after our rotations to make sure that we gleaned all the information we were supposed to. But the good thing about that is that you know you have to stay on top of things. Getting behind is not an option!
