Two Months!

My baby is two months old! It feels like the second month went by even faster than the first did. Every time I look at him I feel like I am missing so much and that I'm not taking NEAR enough pictures! He is such a good baby...he has had several nights where he slept for close to 8 hours and his Mommy was so happy! Actually one night Joey went and woke him up at 5am because it had been 7 hours since his last meal and he thought that was too long ;)

But contrary to what Joey might say, the boy is not short on nurishment. One day I looked at him while Ms. Darla was holding him and he all-of-a-sudden looked like he was HUGE. He is substantially bigger than when we brought him home for sure. We have his two month doctor's appointment on Monday so we will see how much our "Little Man" weighs.

What he likes to do now:
- To be held...this is still his favorite place to sleep which I love to give in to!
- Watch fans
- SMILE...I don't know if he's supposed to have a "social smile" already, but he does
- Have his diaper changed - Joey says this is strange, but I love to be clean too! He kicks and smiles while you're changing him
- sit in his bouncy chair (as long as he's not hungry) - he will sit there while we eat and be so happy
- swing - we set up the swing in his room to help us when we're trying to get ready in the morning and he doesn't want to be left lying on our bed and he LOVES it and is mesmerized by the mobile on it
- he still loves to sleep with us but doesn't do it as often as he used to
- And he eats 3 meals before he goes to sleep! I have started back to my call schedule and the first night his nanny fed him 4 ounces around 5pm and then from 6-9 while Joey had him he ate 9 more ounces of milk!! When I'm home he eats every hour until he crashes for the night (no wonder he can sleep...he packs it away for the long haul!)

He pretty much is happy all the time unless he's hungry which I cannot fault him for! We are SO happy that he is staying with his nanny and the other baby she keeps....we actually got a call today saying that we got into the hospital's day care but I think we are going to stick with this since it's working so well!

I love you all, sorry it's been so long since a post. Audra's B&B calendar is pretty empty now so if anyone is looking for a get-away, come on up!

Audra's Advice to Future Parents....Part I

Sorry it's been so long...I've had some stuff going on outside of the internet world ;)

Hayes is doing GREAT! He is so alert and loves to be talked to. I cannot believe he is almost 2 months old! My little baby is already changing so much.

But this post is not directly about him...it's about the things someone should tell you straight-forward and honest. And I'm just the person to do it!

1. Cloth diapers sound great but if you don't have some deep seeded need to save the planet, you won't end up doing them. I had great aspirations of saving money while saving Hayes from dreaded diaper rash and I caved when it came time to buy them! Pampers swaddlers are basically like cloth but you don't have to wash them!! Yeah for disposable...

2. Baby Wise is wonderful for SUGGESTIONS on parenting - when it gets down to it however, I don't know too many parents of newborns who will WAKE their baby up to feed them if they just ate an hour ago. We didn't and won't with future children either. They will let you know when they are hungry! Hayes goes from zero to mad when he is ignored more than a few minutes.

3. Epidurals are wonderful....it's all the rage, cave in to peer pressure and just do it! I think if they would give me one right now that I would say yes....it was as close as I've ever been to being high and I can understand why people are addicted to drugs after that wonderful experience!

4. Go ahead and get the suped-up baby monitor that monitors their breathing/movements while they sleep. I thought that it was overkill when I registered. After he was born, however, I could not sleep for more than a few minutes because if he got quiet (i.e. finally asleep) I would wake up to make sure he was still breathing. Go ahead, spend the extra dough and be able to get some sleep! As a matter of fact, this might be what I give to future moms who are close enough to me to be reading this....you're welcome!

5. Take it easy on the clothes - this was one I got right: Let people give you all the cute clothes they can grab for you, then sit back and wait. I bought just a couple of things for Hayes because I was scared that if I stocked up on any one size that he would not get to wear them because of either size or season. He is two months old and has been wearing 3-6 months for several weeks. I'm so glad that I don't have a hundred 0-3 month outfits. AND it has gotten cold up here some so I have changed the content of his wardrobe as well.

6. For my drinking moms (man, that sounds bad) - you WILL be out of practice when you have a drink for the first time after 9 months of teetotaling. Take it easy, you will get buzzed after a drink and you will have a headache...after ONE drink!

More to come...
